Default Saturday's Blue Square South wrap

Eastbourne Borough claimed top spot on the Blue Square South table after Lewes lost to relegation-threatened St Albans at the Dripping Pan.

Basingstoke 2-2 Braintree Town

Braintree Town rallied from two goals down to earn a share of the spoils with Basingstoke Town at The Camrose on Saturday afternoon.

The Dragons made the perfect start with James Taylor netting the opener after 13 minutes and doubled their tally nine minutes later when Ben Wells found the back of the net.

However, the second half was Braintree's thanks to a superb brace by Bradley Quinton.

Quinton pulled one back for Braintree in the 75th minute and added his second goal in the 82nd minute.

Bishop's Stortford 2-0 Bromley

Promotion hopefuls Bishop's Stortford maintained their hunt for a play-off place with a comfortable win over Bromley at Woodside Park.

The home side broke the deadlock after 22 minutes thanks to Loui Fazakerley and doubled their advantage in the 67th minute through Paul Goodacre.

After this latest result, Bromley still find themselves in the hunt for a play-off berth as they sit in 10th place with 52 points and trailing fifth-placed Bishop's Stortford by five points.

Cambridge City 2-2 Bognor Regis Town

Cambridge City and Bognor Regis Town played to an action packed draw at City Ground with loads of goalmouth action at either end.

The Rocks took an early lead thanks to Mark Knee and doubled their advantage just minute before the half-time whistle when Luke Nightingale coolly slotted home a penalty kick.

However, their two-goal lead was short-lived as Bognor were awarded a penalty at the other end of the field just two minutes later.

Cambridge drew level on the hour mark under somewhat fortunate circumstances when Sebastian Wallis-Taylor deflected the ball into his own net.

Dorchester A-A Maidenhead Utd

Abandoned after 86 minutes due to waterlogged pitch.

Eastleigh 1-4 Hayes & Yeading

Eastleigh's promotion credentials took a bit of a beating on Saturday as Hayes & Yeading stormed to a convincing victory at Sparshatts Stadium.

The host looked out of sorts and went behind when Hayes & Yeading's Nevin Saroya found the back of the net with a 29th minute effort.

Stafford Palmer doubled their advantage just before half time and Ranbir Marwa further extended their lead seven minutes after the restart.

The Spitfires pulled one back in injury time through Warren McBean but his consolation goal was cancelled out shortly after by Hayes & Yeading's Joel Ledgister.

Fisher Athletic 2-1 Bath City

Fisher Athletic kept their promotion play-off charge on track with a fairly comfortable win over Bath City at Surrey Docks Stadium.

The Fish opened through Shaun Batt on the half-hour mark and doubled their advantage three minutes before the half-time break thanks to Wesley Thomas.

Fellow play-off chasers Bath pulled one back after 50 minute when Sekani Simpson beat Mark White in goal but it was not enough, as the hosts held on to collect all three points.

Hampton & Richmond 1-1 Havant and Waterlooville

Hampton & Richmond and Havant and Waterlooville played to a draw at Beveree Stadium on Saturday afternoon as neither of the two sides could produce an incisive finish.

The Beavers made the best possible start when Lawrence Yaku found the back of the net after just six minutes.

They held onto their first-half advantage heading into the break but the Hawks drew level on 54 minute thanks to Gavin McCallum.

Lewes 0-2 St Albans

Lewes relinquished pole position to Eastbourne Borough after slumping to a shocking defeat at the hands of relegation-threatened St Albans.

The Saints showed more desire and grit on the day and they deserved to collect all three points.

Lee Clarke put the visitors ahead on the half-hour mark and Paul Hakim made sure of the result with his 86th minute effort.

St Albans still find themselves in the drop zone after this morale-boosting result and trail Welling United by just one point.

Sutton Utd 1-5 Eastbourne Borough

The Sports clinched top spot on the league table with a crushing win over rock-bottom Sutton United at the Borough Sports Ground.

Eastbourne took an early lead when Scott Ramsay found the back of the net after just four minutes and they doubled their tally in the 38th minute thanks to Andy Atkins.

The visitors came flying out of the blocks after the restart and made it 3-0 in the 46th minute through Paul Armstrong.

Andy Ballard further extended their lead in the 64th minute before Atkins popped up to double his tally and make the scoreline 5-0.

Sutton pulled one back through Karim El-Salahi in the 79th minute but it was nothing more than a consolation as Eastbourne sat back with a comfortable lead.

Welling 2-1 Weston-S-Mare

Welling increased their chances of surviving the drop with a narrow win over fellow strugglers Weston-Super-Mare at Park View Road.

The Wings drew first blood after 25 minutes thanks to a well taken penalty kick by Richard Carpenter.

The Seagulls restored parity in the 38th minute thanks to striker Lewis Powell and the scores remained unchanged heading into the half-time break.

The hosts reclaimed the lead in the 67th minute through Sam Gargan and they managed to hold on until the final whistle to claim a morale-boosting win.
