Grimsby Town 2-0 Tranmere Rovers
Another great performance by the Mariners, James Hunt once again picking up the Man of the Match award. Phil Barnes was on sharp form as usual with some great stops, he was beaten 3 times but with them all bouncing back off the woodwork. James Hunt grabbed the first goal of the night, heading home a rebounded shot into an open net. The second goal came from a Llewellyn cross, it cut across the 6 yard box to be clumsily tapped in by Tranmere's own defender. At the end of the night, it was a well deserved win for Grimsby as Alan Buckley's men marched on through to the second round.
The Gloryhunter, I'm sure, had an eventful evening, with the whole Pontoon Stand chanting his name. Spencer, besides last years victory, has some rather disapointing memories in the Carling Cup with his 'heart' club Tottenham, especially the 1-0 loss against the one and only Mariners, when JP Kalala blasted home a late volley to secure the win and send the Spurs crashing out. Who can forget that, ey? BRING ON TOTTENHAM! BRING ON TOTTENHAM!
