Grimsby Town - How Will It End
Grimsby Town Football Club: A club with a historic presence, prestigious pedigree, and fish & chips.
In recent times, the club has seen its ups and and downs, it's promotion and relegations, it's Wembley victories and Wembley defeats. The 2008/09 season was optimistically greeted by the Mariners fans during pre-season, after a dismal end to the previous season, seeing 8 consecutive losses after a fantastic run seeing them lose just once in 23, and booking a place at the new Wembley Stadium. But it has seemed to the Black and White faithful that a curse has shrouded the club, as those 8 games without a victory was continued to a depressing 22 - the clubs worst ever start to a season in its 130 year history, and the lowest standard we have ever been at.
On 15/10/2008, that curse was broken, as the Mariners bravely fought on to a 2-0 victory away to Bury at Gigg Lane, also with just 10 men. With Rotherham already above Grimsby, the other 2 deducted teams catch up quickly, but the newly appointed manager Mike Newell seems to have worked wonders, bringing in 3 class-acts (so far) and dropping any dead wood he see's. Come January, many believe (if funded) Mike will build a squad fit for a King, and Grimsby will be safe from relegation, or possibly pushing for a late Play-Off spot.
Now the meaning of this thread; where do you think Grimsby Town - after a dismal start to the season, but with a truly thought-of manager and the Grimsby Town faithful behind the boys - will finish the 2008/09 season in the Coca Cola League 2.
WE ARE GOING UP!
