Default Fowler Set For Mariners .. ?

Serious rumours have been flying around the Grimsby area that former Liverpool star Robbie Fowler is set for a loan spell from Blackburn to the Mariners, with an insight approach to a player/coach role at Blundell Park.

Various sources have linked the 33 year old striker with a possible loan move to Grimsby Town. With manager Mike Newell apparently being in close contact, and with Mike already saying he is not at the club to coach, word is that he has given Robbie the opportunity to player-coach the Mariners side. It has also been said that he has checked in and stayed at the Millfield Hotel last night.

Fowler is currently with Blackburn, on a pay-as-you-play contract. He doesn't feature in Ince's starting 11 plans, and has only made 2 appearances for the Premier League side.

Of course, a player of such former-pedigree as Robbie Fowler moving to a debt drowned, 92/92 ranked Grimsby Town side seems some what ridiculous. Let's look at the pros and cons of the situation:

Pros:
Some contact with Mike Newell
He will get tonnes of games under his belt
He should bang them in like shooting ducks in a barrel
A premature look to work after his retirement

Cons:
Such a small club compared to his previous
Wages if he was to move permanently
Why would he come here?
This is ridiculous

Don't believe a word of it myself, but there seems to be more and more talk about it everyday, and some past reliable sources all say the same.

It's plausible, but come on. It's ridiculous!

its possible but not likely, im sure robbie believes he still has premier league quality otherwise why would you sign a pay as you play deal.........and wouldnt this negate loan spells surely he can go whereva he pleases if that is the contract terms

Apparently he is now discussing terms, and the deal is as good as done!

This is a joke gotten WAY out of hand! It's the only topic going around on the Town message boards .

This would be a quality signing and would be a massive boost for all lower league clubs as it would give them a lift and hope that they could do the same.

Still not sure it will happen but will be great if it does!

God luck mate, keep us updated

I don't believe it. And usually rumours such as this just get brushed aside instantly.

But the talk has been massive recently, with several sources claiming the same facts. I know it sounds insane but it's still plausible, and possible.

Several people who are subscribed through the club's text services have claimed they have received information of a Press Conference tomorrow morning at 10am, and a few have said it involves Fowler...

Still don't believe a word of it, but c'mon if it was a blatant rumour it wouldn't go on like this would it ?
