Mariners Invite Frenchman Back
Mike Newell has invited former Gretna left-sided midfielder / striker Mickaël Buscher for a further trial with Grimsby Town.
The Frenchman, who has been on trial with the Mariners for 2 weeks, has featured in 2 reserve games; a 4-1 thrashing of Barnsley and another 2-1 victory against Sheffield Wednesday, and has impressed the boss enough to earn a call-back, something that does not come commonly at Blundell Park.
Buscher has been without a club, and competitive football since March, when he and 9 others were made redundant by former Scottish Premier League side Gretna, due to financial issues.
The 21-year-old has expressed his desire to join the League 2 strugglers. "I would like the chance to show what I can do. My last game was in March, with Gretna. That's six months ago and now I need to train and I need some games. Why not in Grimsby?".
Other trialists, including Barnsley "star in the making" defender Jacob Butterfield (18) and midfielder Dean McDermott (23) have not been offered deals, along with Spaniard Carlos Rodriguez (18) following the left-backs failure to receive international clearance before the reserve game against Sheff Wednesday.
