Default Lampard Signs 40 Million Mega-deal

Quote:
CHELSEA have made Frank Lampard the Premier League’s highest-paid player with an incredible £39.2million contract.

The Blues did a U-turn by giving him a £151,000- a-week, five-year deal.

And Chelsea will today find out whether their £24.5m bid for Robinho will be successful.

Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon had insisted he would not budge from a four-year offer for midfielder Lamps before giving in yesterday.

Lampard, 30, said: “We can both gain from this deal. I am determined to win the title again and hopefully the Champions League.

“Having tasted the bitter disappointment of losing, I believe we can win it in the future.

“We have a fantastic squad of players and a great manager. This is a very exciting time at Chelsea and I’m happy to be part of it.”

Kenyon admitted “He could be our best signing of the summer. It makes a statement about us keeping our best players.

“He’s fit, he’s committed and in the modern game you will see top players carrying on longer in their careers.”

Meanwhile, Robinho, 24, will demand a move to Stamford Bridge if he fails to agree a new deal with Real Madrid.

Kenyon, in talks with the striker’s representative, last night said: “That situation is ongoing and may happen.”
I´m currently on holiday with Chelsea fans, and after this fracas, Lampard has plunged down in their estimation for his greed. They are at least happy that he has shown his loyalty and signed a new deal. But no one is worth 40 million over 5 years. Complete bollocks.

And what is John Terry going to say, now that he is arguably Chelsea´s top player and he earns 40,000 pounds less per week?

Good point, though I'm not sure whether Terry will care, he may just be pleased that Chelsea didn't lose a player of Lampards calibre (which in my opinion isn't that high but well.. you know).

I do like Lamps, but yes on this occasion he has been greedy. If Lampard really wanted to stay at chelsea (which according to the Sun he did (unreliable source I know)) he would have accepted a contract for less.

I'm pretty sure John Terry won't mind too much, even if he does he won't shout it out in public.

I've heard that it wasn't the 150k a week deal, rather it starts off somewhere like 121k and rises through the first 3 years to 140k and then declines for the last two.
