Default No Alla Politica Nel Calcio

No alla politica nel calcio is Italian for no to politics in football.

Basically, politics and football do not go. In fact, politics and sport do not go. I mean, where the hell does politics come in to it? And that's not a rhetorical question. For example, what does the political situation in Ireland (hint hint) have to do with 22 men aiming to kick a ball into a goal?

We've seen what's happened with the Olympics. Not only has politics mixed with it but in fact overshadowed the whole event. Do we want such a thing happening with football?

If your answer is no, stop singing references to battles hundreds of years ago. Stop singing references to the union or the monarchy. Stop singing references to members of the IRA, pro or anti. Stop making gestures that could be mistaken for others, especially when playing in primarily Jewish countries. And the list goes on...

Discuss.

I agree, but politics and football go hand in hand-check out a book called Football Against The Enemy - Simon Kuper - A excellent book about football and politics

I can't speak for other clubs but I think its impossible to get away from politics when you think of some of the people who helped create celtic football club

when you take political rivalry out of football then some of the biggest derbies in the world would not be as special IMO, look at Real/Barca, Rive/Boca and Celtic/Rangers arguably the 3 biggest derbies in world football based around politics
